Svetlana O. Zorina graduated in geology from Kazan University (Russia) in 1990, C.Sc. in stratigraphy and Dr.Sc. in lithology from Kazan University in 2003 and 2011 respectively. She is currently an Academic Secretary in the Central Scientific Research Institute of Geology of Industrial Minerals and an Associate Professor in Kazan Federal University (Kazan, Russia).
She had worked as a field geologist and then as a Head of the Geological Survey department on all stages of gold and tin prospecting and geological survey, (Eastern Siberia, Central Part of Russia.
Her current research interests include:
- Litho-, bio-, magneto- and sequence stratigraphy of interior basins
- Cumulative impact of global sea level changes, tectonics and sediment suply on the sediment architecture: modeling and application
- Paleobathymentric reconstructions on the basis of micropaleontologic analyses
- Mineral composition, genesis and technological properties of the Permian, Jurassic, Cretaceous and Paleogene sedimentary rocks of the Russian Plate
Svetlana O. Zorina has been teaching specialized courses on Stratigraphy for Masters students at Kazan Federal University.
Her scientific expertise led to awarding the State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan (2005) for the monograph "Stratigraphy and Tectonics of Tatarstan" (Russia).
She is a co-leader of the UNESCO/IUGS International Geoscience Programme Project 609 (2013-2017) "Climate-environmental deteriorations during greenhouse phases: Causes andconsequences of short-term Cretaceous sea-level changes".
Svetlana O. Zorina is a full member of Russian Mineralogical Society and Russian Paleontological Society.
She has 150 scientific publications in international and Russian journals, monographs and proceedings of conferences on the stratigraphy, lithology, sea-level changes and other topics. She is also interested in geoconservation.
